Setting Intentions for 2026: A Gentler Way to Begin
I used to hear the phrase “set your intention” at the beginning of yoga classes and never really gave myself the space to understand it. It always felt rushed—something said quickly before movement began.
Everything changed when one of the executives at a company I worked for explained how she sets an intention before every meeting. Her intention wasn’t about controlling the outcome. It might be that the meeting flows seamlessly or that her message is received with clarity. She was deciding the energy she wanted to bring before she even walked in.
That idea stuck with me.
An intention is different from a goal. A goal can create pressure—Did I hit it? Am I behind? An intention invites you to feel first. It’s like an athlete visualizing a touchdown before stepping onto the field—not stressing about every move, but fully embodying the excitement and confidence of success.
I began practicing this before farmer’s markets and events. Instead of obsessing over numbers, I would set an intention for ease, enjoyment, meaningful connections, and aligned opportunities. When I let go of attachment to the outcome, everything felt lighter. More fun. More natural.
That doesn’t mean negative thoughts never show up—we’re human. When they do, I lean on tools like breathwork and meditation to return to that intentional space.
Each year, I ask my team to set their own intentions. We check in throughout the year, reflect at the end, and celebrate wins—big and small. You’ll hear me talk about this often in yoga class: feel your intention, then breathe life into it.
Intentions take practice. Slow down. Breathe. Calm your nervous system. Ask yourself:
-
What do I want to call in this year?
-
What am I ready to let go of?
-
What does it feel like to receive or release this?
That feeling is everything.
Resolutions can feel heavy and restrictive. Intentions feel lighter, more aligned, and more sustainable. They set the tone for your day, your year, and your life—without forcing control.
My intention for 2026 is to step out of constant hustle and into feminine flow—to rest when needed, listen to my body, and regulate my central nervous system with compassion. It’s a challenge for me, but one I’m ready to explore.

Now it’s your turn.
